Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Plan: Is It Fair?

Crossing Party Lines

Location: Online

On August 24th the White House announced a plan to forgive up to $20,000 of federal student loans for many borrowers. Whether or not you (or someone you know) will be getting all or a portion of your student loans forgiven as a result of this move, chances are this plan will impact you in some way.

It’s welcome news for some, but did the current administration take things too far? Some critics have stated that forgiving debt for loans taken out voluntarily encourages fiscal irresponsibility. Others question whether the income threshold is too high, giving relief to those who don’t need it. There are also concerns that President Biden’s plan doesn’t go far enough – that $20,000 isn’t enough to make a dent in the growing “student debt crisis.”

What do you think?

At this meeting we’ll discuss whether such a move to forgive is fair. Who wins and who loses when the government forgives student loan debt?

Join the Crossing Party Lines discussion and have a voice in our Nation’s Conversation! People of all views are welcomed, appreciated, and heard.
