Book Club Training

A Peace of my Mind

Location: Online

Author John Noltner will lead an online training to launch book clubs for Portraits of Peace: Searching for Hope in a Divided America.

About this event
We are hearing from people that they are excited to share Portraits of Peace with their book clubs, small groups and communities, so we are offering this free resource to get you started!

This virtual training session will share additional online content, the discussion guide for Portraits of Peace and tips on how to access discounted books for your group and coordinate a virtual Q&A with the author to enhance the experience and engagement for your community.

Author John Noltner will lead this virtual workshop, we will engage in 2-3 practice breakout sessions around book passages and discussion guide prompts, and leave plenty of time for Q&A to ensure that you can lead a successful conversation in your own circles.

Here’s the blurb from the back of the book:

Frustrated with an increasingly polarized social landscape, award-winning photographer John Noltner set out on a 40,000-mile road trip across the United States to rediscover the common humanity that connects us. He did so by asking people one simple question: “What does peace mean to you?” Through difficult conversations, gentle humor, and a keen eye for beauty, Noltner’s Portraits of Peace captures a rich collage of who we are as a nation.

Beautiful storytelling and captivating photography converge to offer a uniquely human and accessible examination of the social issues that most challenge us today, such as racial equality, immigration reform, LGBTQ+ rights, women’s rights, freedom of religion, and tolerance. Through the real-world stories of ordinary citizens who choose, in the midst of difficult circumstances, to pursue healing, reconciliation, and community building, we discover a glimmer of hope that something better is possible.

Portraits of Peace offers a promising road map to a peaceful future as a pluralistic society.

Please come to explore ways you can engage your community in these conversations. Tell your friends. This workshop is free and open to the public.
