Conversation with Sir Lindsay Hoyle

USC Center for the Political Future

Location: Both

On Tuesday, February 14 from 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. PST in Mudd Hall (MHP 203), Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, joins CPF Director Bob Shrum to discuss the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom in light of current global events. This trip to USC marks Sir Lindsay Hoyle’s first ever trip to the United States as Speaker of the House of Commons. Valentine’s Day candy will be served to all attendees as a symbol of the deep affection the US shares with the UK.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle’s political career began at age 22, when he was elected in 1980 as the youngest ever Councilor to serve Chorley. He has been a Member of Parliament, a member of the Labour Party, and since 2019, he has become the UK Speaker of the House of Commons. In Parliament, he has served on the Trade & Industry Select Committee and the European Scrutiny Committee and has held the roles of Deputy Speaker and Chairman of Ways and Means.

Bob Shrum is the Director of the USC Dornsife Center for the Political Future, and the Warschaw Chair in Practical Politics. A legendary political strategist, he was once described as “the most sought-after consultant in the Democratic Party,” by The Atlantic Monthly.

This event is in partnership with student organizations USC Political Union, VoteSC, Political Student Assembly, and The Bridge Cultural Exchange Academy.
