Just how bad is it? Global dissidents diagnose America’s political ailments
You know the problems: bogus claims of fraudulent elections, no space for disagreement or moderation, and a society that’s ripping apart at the seams. But how do we pull American democracy back from the ledge?
For the first time since the launch of Frontlines of Freedom, RDI Freedom Fellows are coming together for a discussion on what we can do to resist the rise of authoritarianism in America. While democratic crises are relatively new to Americans, these dissidents have spent decades fighting against the trends that we’re still just coming to understand. They offer a new, outside-in perspective that you probably haven’t heard before. Moderated by CNN’s John Avlon, we will focus on why societies turn against liberty, how to build a unifying pro-democracy coalition, and what Americans can do to defend their democracy today.
Host: John Avlon
Speakers: Garry Kasparov, Masih Alinejad
