4/15: How to Be a Leader Worth Following
The foundation of good leadership is more than charisma, confidence, popularity, or productivity. This session explores the true nature of leadership and the skills and habits that will help you be the kind of leader others want to follow.
5/20: How to Communicate Well With Everyone You Meet
We all know communication requires the two-way flow of information: the ability to speak and the ability to listen. Political communication, particularly when coming from organizational leaders, requires something beyond merely conveying information. This session is about enhancing your communication skills so that you can be ready for the crucial conversations whenever they happen.
6/17: How to Manage Burnout for You and Your Team
It’s been said that choosing to work in politics is choosing to have your heart broken. For many in the democracy reform movement, the issues for which we fight are central to our personal sense of purpose and justice in the world, which can increase the potential for feelings of burnout. In this session we’ll explore how to lead your team (and take care of yourself) when burnout occurs.
7/15: Fundraising & Financial Management
All businesses – including nonprofits – must be mindful of their bottom line. The ability to raise money and to manage it effectively is the key to long-term success. This session discusses key concepts that democracy reform leaders need to keep in mind as they design programs and plan for the future.
8/19: How to Negotiate More Effectively
When it comes to politics, everything is negotiable: from policy to fundraising to driving voter turnout. This session teaches tangible skills to help you move beyond win/lose and negotiate so that you can achieve your goals without giving up the farm.
9/16: The Next Generation of Leadership
Good leaders know they won’t be at the helm forever; they must invest time and energy in cultivating the new leaders for the future. This session looks at how to identify, recruit, and build up young leaders that will help the democracy reform movement continue to grow.
