Tariffs: Who Really Pays the Price?

Crossing Party Lines

Location: Online

Tariffs have long been used as a tool to regulate trade, protect industries, and influence economic policies. Some see them as a way to strengthen domestic businesses and reduce reliance on foreign goods, while others argue they lead to higher prices and strained international relationships. As tariffs continue to be debated in politics and global trade, their impact on businesses, workers, and consumers remains a key question.

At this meeting, we’ll explore our personal perspectives on tariffs and how they affect our daily lives.

We’ll ask questions such as:

  • When you hear about tariffs, what comes to mind? Do you see them as more helpful or harmful?
  • What industries or products do you think benefit from tariffs, if any? Why?
  • If you could set trade policy, what approach would you take to balance economic growth and fair competition?
  • What countries would you impose or remove tariffs from?
  • What should the purpose of tariffs be?

This conversation is an opportunity to reflect on our own experiences with trade policies and explore different perspectives on the role tariffs play in the economy.

Please do your best to arrive at the beginning of the meeting – once we are in breakout rooms and the conversations have started, the meeting doors close to new arrivals. The breakout rooms open (and the doors close) approximately 15 minutes after the hour.
