A FixUS Conversation: What is our Shared Patriotism?
Patriotism can act as a unifying force to help our country achieve lofty goals like putting a man on the moon or healing in the aftermath of a national tragedy. Yet over the past few decades, we have seen divides over patriotism at the center of our culture wars, to the point where symbols like the American flag have become divisive partisan cues. Is it possible to restore patriotism as a unifying force? Can the topic of patriotism be an entry point for identifying shared values that many of us hold dear, such as independence, hard work, and honesty, and help create a more universal version of patriotism? Or have the divisions become too deep to repair? Join FixUS for a conversation where we explore these questions in a group discussion.
