Beyond “The Talk” Empowering Our Black Children for Police Encounters

Location: Online

In honor of Juneteenth and the National Week of Conversation, Essteem is hosting a conversation with

Marie Roker-Jones, Co-founder of Essteem
Steve Silverman, founder of Flex Your Rights.org and Open Police.org
Vanessa Maddox, CEO of V.R. Maddox Consulting,
Tanja Thompson, Author and TedX Speaker
Aleasa Word, CEO of A. Word and Company
Blacks in Technology.org

The fact is: most Black children have been exposed to some form of racism. We’re not raising them the way we are teaching them, and that’s where things get tricky.

Black parents need a support system when it comes to making a plan for their children when they are confronted by police officers. We are inviting allies to join us to talk about solutions to help de-escalate encounters with the police.

★Where to find resources for children and parents in an encounter with the police

★ Current information about how to prepare for various scenarios where your child or loved one could be in a police encounter

★The best way to prepare your child and yourself for a successful outcome during such an encounter

This conversation is the precursor to our July Equalithon (hackathon for equality)
