Braver Angels Film Discussion: My Octopus Teacher (BA National)

Location: Online

** This event is open to the media upon approval. Media contact: Ciaran O’Connor, ciaran@braverangels.org

Watch a movie on your own, then attend a discussion of it made richer by the wide variety of viewpoints that participants hold.

We choose films that address social, political or cultural issues that are relevant to society today. They may highlight liberal-leaning, conservative-leaning or independent themes, or feature actors or directors from opposite sides of the political spectrum.

We’ll be discussing the film My Octopus Teacher.

My Octopus Teacher won the 2021 Academy Award for Best Documentary, and is a remarkably enchanting film about the relationship between a man and an octopus.

Why discuss it in Braver Angels? You’ll be surprised at how much My Octopus Teacher teaches us about how two very different beings can get along.

We will be talking about overcoming fear; visiting the other in his/her environment; the importance of curiosity; gaining trust; self sacrifice; and more.

My Octopus Teacher is streaming on Netflix. Watch the Trailer!

Screen reader support enabled.

Be sure to watch the film before we meet on Zoom to discuss it!
