Film Discussion – Braver Angels Film Club–Twelve Angry Men

Location: Online

We choose films that address social, political or cultural issues that are relevant to society today. They may highlight liberal-leaning, conservative-leaning or independent themes, or feature actors or directors from opposite sides of the political spectrum.

We’ll be discussing the 1957 classic film 12 Angry Men starring Henry Fonda. This courtroom drama shows a jury of 12 men as they deliberate whether to convict a defendant on the basis of reasonable doubt, forcing the jurors to question their morals and values. It also shows the power of one man to cause change. Many regard it as one of the greatest films ever made.

View the film trailer here, and watch 12 Angry Men for free here. On Amazon Prime, you can also watch the film for free with subtitles here.

Dr. Onalee McGraw will moderate this event and tie it to the previous film she moderated, “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” starring Jimmy Stewart. Stewart, a conservative, and Fonda, a liberal, were good friends in real life, and in these two films both play men of character and integrity who have a positive impact on others.

Be sure to watch the film before we meet on Zoom to discuss it!
