Independent Voters: Rising, Real & Ready w/ CNN’s Michael Smerconish

Co-hosted by Jacqueline Salit & John Opdycke
Monday March 7th at 4pm EST

The statistics on the growth of independent voters in America are staggering – 42% and rising.

For years, the parties, pundits, and pollsters either ignored independent voters or simply re-labelled them “party leaners.”

But there are signs that this is changing. Independent voters are increasingly deciding election outcomes. And pollsters like Frank Luntz are starting to dig a little deeper: “You sound like you’re independent because you reject both political parties. Not that you like them both and you want to choose between both, but actually, you’re rejecters. Do I have it right?” (NY Times, 1/20/22)

CNN television and radio host, author, lawyer and independent, Michael Smerconish has been ahead of the curve when it comes to the independent phenomenon. He’s written and talked extensively about the power and potential of this growing constituency ever since he left the Republican Party in 2008.

On Monday March 7th at 4pm EST Open Primaries President John Opdycke, and Jackie Salit, President of Independentvoting.org and author of Independents Rising: Outsider Movements, Third Parties, and the Struggle for a Post-Partisan America, will interview Mr. Smerconish on the state of the independent voter phenomenon and take your questions. Don’t miss this opportunity to talk directly with one of the most insightful and forward looking political analysts in the country.
