June Convergence Leadership Council Meeting

In recent months, Convergence launched our new Dialogue on Pathways to Better Jobs, made significant progress towards consensus on our Dialogue on Reimagining Care for Older Adults, launched our new Roundtable on Civil Service Modernization, and much more. We have increased our capacity by welcoming new staff and developed a Strategic Plan (soon to be public) laying out our vision of impact, growth, and scale over the next five years.

Please join us for Convergence’s next Leadership Council Meeting on Wednesday, June 22nd from 1-4pm ET / 10am–1pm PT over Zoom to learn more about this progress, hear about what is next for Convergence, and contribute your thoughts!

Our program will feature a conversation with john a. powell, 2022 recipient of the Convergence Bridge-Building Leadership Award.

john a. powell is Director of the Othering and Belonging Institute and Professor of Law, African American, and Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. He was previously the Executive Director at the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at the Ohio State University, and prior to that, the founder and director of the Institute for Race and Poverty at the University of Minnesota. john formerly served as the National Legal Director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). He is a co-founder of the Poverty & Race Research Action Council and serves on the boards of several national and international organizations. john led the development of an “opportunity-based” model that connects affordable housing to education, health, health care, and employment and is well-known for his work developing the frameworks of “targeted universalism” and “othering and belonging” to effect equity-based interventions. john has taught at numerous law schools including Harvard and Columbia University. His latest book is Racing to Justice: Transforming our Concepts of Self and Other to Build an Inclusive Society.

We are excited for what will no doubt be a stimulating conversation with john, and for the opportunity to present him with this award. In addition to this, a timely conversation on Convergence’s Economic Opportunity portfolio will take place, led by Convergence’s staff, on issues and solutions around the American economy.
