Meta-Dialogue Series: In Search of a Theory

Over the past year, Waging Dialogue has paired individuals across America from different backgrounds and beliefs — liberal and conservative, religious and secular, urban and rural, of different ages and genders. We’ve given these “dyads” a unique space to share their personal stories and perspectives. Through this process our participants have bravely uncovered and navigated through the impasses that arise from differing viewpoints, and hopefully developed a deeper understanding of each other’s experiences and thinking styles. On April 20th, we will hold a group meta-discussion for participants in our dyads. This session will serve as a reflective forum, allowing participants to share their journey, discuss the dynamics of their interactions, and evaluate the challenges and successes they encountered. We’ll discuss how their backgrounds and thinking styles shape their positions and delve into how their impasses were approached and overcome. We’ll try to draw comparisons to identify trends and gather insights for our future work. We will livestream this engaging discussion and invite you to observe and take part in this unique experiment that has the potential to be a game changer in reducing toxic polarization in our society.
