National Debate: Parents and Education

Join Braver Angels Thurs Mar 31 @ 8 pm EST for a debate on the topic – “Resolved: Schools should reflect the communities they teach (racially, ideologically, etc)”

The goal of public schools is to be a public good, but what does that mean in America today? Is there a shared set of lessons, and values, for all American students? Or is that public good better defined by the local community? Who should decide–parents, professional educators, or someone else entirely?

Public education for our children has been a bedrock of America. But our politics is invading the classroom and school board meetings have become battlegrounds. Students are frustrated that they cannot just focus on learning. Teachers are afraid of becoming targets.

What is the role of schools in forming American citizens? And should teachers, or parents, be the ones to decide?

Come join us for this free national debate, in which all participants from across the ideological spectrum will have an opportunity to speak and ask their questions. Tell us what you have experienced and what you think.
