Embodied Empathy: Improv theater for deep listening

Location: Online

Embodied Empathy: Improvised theater for deep listening across differences – An interactive, improvisational theater show with True Story Theater Saturday, April 30th, 5:00pm eastern time on Zoom TICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/reaching-across-ideological-differences-why-try-and-what-you-might-gain-tickets-302080058587

Come experience improvisational story-telling theatre that brings to life what is in people’s hearts when they engage in potentially challenging conversations. Witness our actors as they model embodied, empathetic listening that enables participants to understand each other more fully. If interested, learn how this storytelling work might be useful to you and groups you are part of.

In keeping with the National Week of Conversation, the theme of this online Playback Theater performance is, “Reaching Across Ideological Differences: Why try and what you might gain.” Have you ever tried to talk with someone you care about whose views are clearly different from yours–say, about Covid vaccinations, or whom to vote for, or abortion, or which news sources to trust? Audience members will be invited to share their experiences of these kinds of interactions.  The actors will reflect back what was shared, with respect, empathy and creativity. ll perspectives are welcome.

The show aims to reveal valuable insights into why we do or don’t try to reach out, what helps such conversations go well or terribly, and what can give us resilience to even try. Come to share or simply watch and listen.

Tickets are $5-30 ($15 suggested) GET TICKETS HERE: https://playbacknorthamerica.com/event/reaching-across-ideological-differences/

NOTE: If you are interested, right after the 90-minute performance you can join one of three breakout rooms: 1) to explore how Playback Theater could serve your work, 2) to share an experience of reaching across difference, and 3) open discussion, including learning about the many resources available for dialogue across differences.

We invite members of the #ListenFirst Coalition to explore how Playback Theatre could amplify the emotional effectiveness of your work. Contact christopher@truestorytheater.org.
