Restorative Justice Foundations for Accountability …

Mediators Beyond Borders International

Location: Online

Restorative Justice Foundations for Accountability, Repair and Transformation

This session will cover foundational restorative justice principles and practices but also go beyond them to describe a community-based approach Scott calls Active Peace Circles, which go more deeply into root causes and systems change. Cultivating an overall restorative mindset is primary, as is the framing of harm as unmet universal human needs.

We will look at the 5 Rs of restorative justice and reflect on them in personal ways, as well as in the context of our professional lives: Relationship, Responsibility, Respect, Repair, and Reintegration.

Other aspects of Active Peace Circles will also be covered to fill out the picture and describe how the work fosters transformation at personal, interpersonal, and collective levels. There will be experiential elements, open discussion, and additional resources will be offered.

It’s hoped that information and discussion from the session will help inform further exploration of best practices for transformative and community-level mediation, along with other topics.
