Between an evolving global pandemic, an anti-democratic insurrection, and a rollback of voting rights across the US, 2021 has been a year of upheaval that has shed bright light on what’s needed for justice and democracy in these times.

While the future remains unclear, many of us are asking — what’s next?

At the Participatory Budgeting Project, we believe that community decision-making power, between and beyond elections, is vital to the future of democracy. In the face of uncertainty, we have been dreaming big, building bold new initiatives and coalitions, and supporting communities across the country in exercising real power over budgets and policies that affect their lives.
