We the People’s Forum: Does America Still Have An Opioid Crisis?

Location: Online

What happened to the opioid crisis? Is it still raging or has it gotten better? What have we learned? Is there any hope?

We’ll pursue these questions and issues with two speakers who have direct experience with drug addiction and now share their insights and stories with others.

Annette Ritter is a Human Services and Addiction Counseling student, Peace Club President, and member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee at Allegany College of Maryland, and an active Braver Angels member. She is a Steelers fan, motorcyclist, and mother and grandmother who understands the complexities, hopes, and tragedies of drug addiction through her own and family experiences.

Jan Christian Hafer came to be a Recovery Coach through the nonprofit, GRaCE, after her daughter embraced recovery. One of GRaCE’s mantra’s “walking with you,” drew her in and gave her the confidence to help others towards recovery. Jan lives in Shepherdstown, WV, and is passionate about empowering people and communities, and is also fluent in American Sign Language.

Join our two speakers in a revealing conversation that will include lots of time for Discussion. During Discussion, anyone with direct experience on this question may comment, and anyone may ask a question of the speakers.

This We the People’s Forum is in collaboration with Greater Recovery and Community Empowerment (GRaCE), a grassroots nonprofit that focuses on training and networking Recovery/Life Coaches in a multitude of contexts. Recovery/Life Coaches model and instill resilience through focusing on strengths-based, trauma-informed healthy relationship building and leadership skills. Through listening, utilizing motivational interviewing, believing in the ability to change, being an advocate with the coachee as they discover resources, and helping the coachee discern and achieve goals, Coaches empower others to move toward success in navigating issues and challenges in a healthy and holistic manner.
