Video Intervention to Reduce Political Violence, Partisan Animosity, and Anti-democratic Attitudes
Beyond ConflictDemocrats and Republicans are increasingly growing apart from each other – from where they live to where they get their news. When our lives are siloed in this way, we end up relying on our perceptions of “the other” to guide how we think, how we act, and who we see as a friend or foe. But these perceptions are often grossly exaggerated, with profoundly negative consequences to the health of our communities, our nation, and our democracy.
This video, and others in development at Beyond Conflict, are an attempt to correct these misperceptions and create a space for Americans to cooperate to address the major challenges we share.
Featuring everyday Americans from across the country, this video was named one of the most effective tools to reduce support for political violence, anti-democratic attitudes, and partisan animosity by the Strengthening Democracy Challenge. The competition, run by the Polarization and Social Change Lab at Stanford University, reviewed 252 submissions from around the world and chose 25 finalists for further analysis.
You can do your part to counter toxic polarization and reduce political violence ahead of Midterms by watching and sharing this short video with your communities today. For more information and resources, visit https://beyondconflictint.org/adm-video-intervention.
