Sustainable Fisheries
Ensuring long-term conservation of tuna and tuna-like species through science-based management measures balancing commercial harvest with population health.
International commission managing tuna fisheries conservation
About Organization
Responsible for the conservation and management of fisheries for tunas and other species taken by tuna-fishing vessels in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Based in La Jolla, CA, IATTC ensures the long-term conservation and sustainable use of tuna stocks through science-based conservation measures, operating the Achotines Laboratory with 48 employees and annual revenue of $12.0 million.
Sustainable Fisheries
Ensuring long-term conservation of tuna and tuna-like species through science-based management measures balancing commercial harvest with population health.
Climate Impact
Researching ocean warming and acidification effects on tropical tuna populations, particularly vulnerable pre-recruit life stages critical to stock sustainability.
Bycatch Mitigation
Developing and testing technologies reducing unintended marine species capture in tuna fisheries, protecting ecosystem biodiversity in Eastern Pacific waters.
