Abortion: Moral Issues and Laws

Abortion has been legal at the federal level in the U.S. since 1973, though many states have attempted to pass more restrictive abortion laws. Party identification and political ideology are strong predictors of one’s basic stand on abortion: 89% of liberal Democrats but only 22% of conservative Republicans say abortion should be legal in all or most cases. Yet individual opinions are often more complicated than simply “pro-choice” or “pro-life.”

The recent leak of a draft Supreme Court opinion has shone the spotlight once again on abortion and the Roe v. Wade decision.

Come prepared to share your own views on abortion, and even more importantly, to understand the views of others and the experiences that led to those views.
