Canceled: Has It Happened To You?

Crossing Party Lines

Location: Online

Whether you see it as an obstruction to the free exchange of ideas, you view it as a tool for assigning accountability on a public scale, or you think it’s something else entirely, “canceling” seems to be everywhere. But what does the term really mean when applied to people?

Join us as we try to find out!

Before the meeting, think about times you’ve seen or experienced cancellation in action. Choose one example to bring to the meeting – we’ll lay them all on the table and compare them as we ask:

  • How and in what situations do you use the term?
  • What are the ways in which individuals cancel one another?
  • When do you consider it appropriate to cancel others, if ever?
  • What alternatives are there to canceling someone? (Note, this depends on why you would consider canceling them.)
  • What does it feel like to be canceled, or to be the canceler?

Join the Crossing Party Lines discussion and have a voice in our Nation’s Conversation! People of all views are welcomed, appreciated, and heard.

Please do your best to arrive at the beginning of the meeting – once we are in breakout rooms and the conversations have started, the meeting doors close to new arrivals. The breakout rooms open (and the doors close) approximately 15 minutes after the hour.
