National Day of Dialogue

Location: Online

Why the National Day of Dialogue?

Disinformation, mass shootings, widening political divides, growing social and economic inequality… It seems our list of unsolved issues continues to grow longer. Is it possible we’ve come to the point in history where finding common ground is impossible?

We believe the answer to this question is a resounding NO! But it will take millions of us joining together to push back against hate, fear, apathy and division to interrupt these cycles. It will take a movement of Americans, and global citizens, to stand up and say enough. To cross lines of difference and into hard conversations with family members, friends, and neighbors. Our future is up to us. And it starts one dialogue at a time.

Any environment that lacks authentic dialogue makes people more fearful, more anxious, more isolated, and less engaged. The result? Greater anger, more division, and increased polarization. This is still us right now.

The truth is each of us has a role to play in knitting our country back together.

Join a coalition of bridge building organizations and thousands of Americans on January 5, 2023 for the National Day of Dialogue.

The National Day of Dialogue was inspired by 13 courageous individuals who, in 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic and following one of the most contentious elections in U.S. history, dared to come together despite what seemed at that time, incredibly low odds. Over the course of 4 weeks, these 13 Americans put dialogue to the test. In the end, however, they learned that healing and understanding are possible when dialogue remains a central part of the journey, even in the midst of seemingly low odds.

Since then, the National Day of Dialogue has grown to become more than just a day, or even a single event. It is a movement. A movement of average citizens — from across the globe — looking for answers to today’s highly polarized and politicized environment.

And while the National Day of Dialogue will never fully heal our country’s, or any country’s, divides, it is one important wave in a sea of bridge building efforts happening on an almost daily basis. These are led by organizations, leaders, and communities working across lines of difference to stitch the fabric of America, and the world, back together one person, one conversation, one dialogue at a time.

ABOUT

To those who have been part of the National Day of Dialogue story, we thank you.

And to the dozens who have helped shape and invested in the NDOD journey, we are deeply grateful. You know who you are. Your collective wisdom, experience and commitment to strengthening the weakened fabric of America continues to impact the lives of people all around the globe.

If this is your first time participating in the National Day of Dialogue, welcome to the movement! On January 5th and months after, you will benefit from the unique content and expertise of NDOD’s 20+ coalition partners. Since NDOD’s founding, we have become aware of the value of gathering families, businesses, and communities to experience the transformative and healing power of dialogue. In fact, we are still hearing from participants how much of a difference NDOD has made in their personal, professional, and even political lives. We know it can do the same for you.

Though the National Day of Dialogue was originally founded by Ideos Institute president, Christy Vines, since then it has become the product of a coalition of non-profit organizations, institutions of higher learning, and local, state and national leaders. Without them, the National Day of Dialogue would not be possible.

Thank you for joining this important and powerful movement. We are grateful for your presence and for your voice.
